The Job:

Due to a rapid increase in demand for our products, we are seeking an experienced manufacturing support engineer to join our ambitious team.

As a growing leader in the manufacture of electrochemical sensors for life safety, commercial and industrial applications, we wish to complement our engineering team with an experienced and hands-on engineer who will be responsible for many of our production lines and the quality of the products produced there on.

The Candidate:

Qualified in Mechanical, Electrical or a relevant Engineering discipline

• >10 years’ experience in manufacturing environment as maintenance or production support engineer

• Be driven and self-motivated, someone who strives to improve

• Flexible work ethic as extra hours or weekend work may be required on occasion due to business demands.

• A hands-on approach with a practical approach to solving problems

• Experience of quality systems, and the management of change

• Experience of developing and adhering to planned maintenance and calibration schedules.
• Excellent communications skills

• A willingness to work hard in a demanding but friendly environment where the business's success depends on everyone's input and output

• Knowledge of PLC controlled automation, Robot programming and ultrasonic welding are all advantageous

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sales Manager to drive our North American sales strategy. This pivotal role is based out of our in Portchester, Hampshire, UK with regular travel to the United States and Canada (approximately 1–2 weeks per month). Reporting to the Sales & Marketing Director, you will be responsible for expanding our customer base and achieving sales targets within the North American region. Your primary goal will be to foster and develop key relationships with OEM customers throughout the US and Canada, ensuring DD-Scientific's continued growth and success in this market.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to meet revenue and growth targets for the North American market.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities with both new and existing customers in North America.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, understanding client needs to deliver value-driven solutions.
  • Conduct face-to-face sales meetings with customers and prospects, promoting DD-Scientific products and services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including marketing, product development, and customer support to ensure an optimal customer experience.
  • Analyse market trends and competitor activities to keep our offering competitive and relevant.
  • Manage and report on sales pipeline and forecasting to the Sales & Marketing Director.
  • Represent DD-Scientific at industry events, exhibitions, and conferences within North America.

 

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years of technical sales experience within the sensor, instrumentation, or electronic component sectors. 
  • 3+ years of proven experience in face-to-face sales within overseas territories, ideally with a focus on North America and / or Canada
  • Degree or equivalent in technical discipline. 
  • Strong knowledge of the North American market and an understanding of regional customer dynamics and requirements.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a technical sales environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a proactive approach to solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of self-motivation and accountability.

  • This role is based in our Portchester, UK office, with typical travel split of 2–3 weeks in the UK Office and 1–2 weeks in North America each month.

Core responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance & Control: Define, implement, and manage quality assurance processes and control plans for new and existing products.
  • Product Testing: Develop, coordinate, and execute product testing plans to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality metrics.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigate product quality issues using techniques such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone Diagrams, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with suppliers to establish product quality standards, conduct audits, and ensure adherence to contractual agreements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing product quality, reducing defects, and optimising production processes.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain quality documentation, including test reports, failure analysis, and corrective/preventive action reports (CAPAs).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure products comply with relevant UK/EU standards and regulations, such as CE marking, ISO certifications, and RoHS/WEEE requirements.
  • Customer Support: Work closely with customer service and sales teams to address and resolve product-related concerns and provide technical support when needed.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
  • Proven experience in product quality engineering, preferably within a manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or consumer electronics environment.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO 9001, and experience in implementing and auditing these systems.
  • Strong understanding of root cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, etc.) and problem-solving techniques.
  • Familiarity with UK and EU product compliance regulations (e.g., RoHS, REACH).
  • Proficient in quality tools such as FMEAAPQPPPAP, and SPC.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management software.

Desirable:

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
  • Experience with automated testing and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of CAD and product design software.

Preferred experience;

  • Previous assembly/manufacturing experience is preferred though training can be provided to individuals who are enthusiastic and keen to learn.

  • Work involves assembly of potentially life saving components so quality and attention to detail are essential for this role.

  • You will be working in a fast paced manufacturing environment, assembling small parts to high standards and targets, as part of a growing team.

  • Experience of work in testing or warehouse would be beneficial.
